About
I am an early-career researcher in Philosophy. My main philosophical interests are in aesthetics, social epistemology and the philosophies of agency, mind and perception. I am becoming increasingly interested in the ontology and epistemology of moral reasons.
My work has appeared in such journals as The British Journal of Aesthetics, The Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism, The Philosophical Quarterly, Philosophical Psychology and Ratio.
My PhD, on the epistemic value of pictures, was supervised by Keith Hossack and awarded August 2011 from Birkbeck College. It was supported by the inaugural British Society of Aesthetics PhD Studentship Award and a Royal Institute of Philosophy Jacobsen Fellowship. In 2010 I was a visiting student in the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Oxford, where I was supervised by Prof. John Hyman.
During 2011-2012 I will be teaching on a variety of modules at Birkbeck and Heythrop colleges. Other roles and activities include:
• Co-Organiser of the London Aesthetics Forum, a speaker series in aesthetics and the philosophy of art.
• Editor of the 'Photography' category of PhiPapers.org.
• Editorial Assistant of the Journal of Applied Philosophy.
• Executive Committee Member of the British Society of Aesthetics.
My current research has two distinct strands: (i) the aesthetics, epistemology and phenomenal character of pictorial representation; and (ii) 'sensorimotor' or 'enactive' theories of perception.
