About
My research shows how Cuban émigrés in London construct their notions of identity. It focuses on the use of news media music and food in this process.
I have recently completed my PhD thesis on the topics of identity and diaspora. I passed my viva on 20th January 2011 (examiners: Prof. Antoni Kapcia and Dr. Cathy McIlwaine), subject to minor corrections.
I also hold a MA in Journalism Studies from Cardiff University and a BA (Lic.) in Journalism from Havana University.
From 1994 to 2004 I worked extensively on Cuban media (print, broadcast and online) as a journalist/reporter and editor.
I also write fiction and have been awarded literary prizes by several Cuban and Latin American institutions
