About

I hold the LLB form the University of Exeter and a PhD from EUI, Florence.

I am Professor of European Law  at Birkbeck.

I have previously held posts as:

i.    the Managing Editor of the European Law Journal at the European University Institute in Florence;

ii.    as a lecturer in Law and Political Science at the University of Bremen and as a fellow at the Centre for European Legal Policy at the University of Bremen;

iii.    I am also Director of the Birkbeck College Research School, co-ordinating the research environment for post-graduate students across all Schools at Birkbeck College. Currently,

iv.    I sit on the editorial boards of Law and Critique and the Journal for Socio-Legal Studies.

v.    I am also Vice-Chair of the Academic Board for Social Sciences of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

I have researched widely in the field of European Law and have particular interests in the areas of European regulatory law, European administrative and constitutional law and European citizenship.

Together, with my assistant, Julia Eisner, she has recently completed a monograph "The Making of the European Constitution: Judges and Lawyers Beyond Constitutive Power" (Routledge-Cavendish 2007) which brings together the results of her research conducted under the CIDEL Fifth Framework Programme on European Citizenship, funded by the European Commission, and organised by ARENA, University of Norway.

Previously, I have conducted funded research for the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and the European Commission.

I am currently working on a monograph on European Citizenship and the Law.
