About
My PhD thesis was submitted in May of 2010. Revisions were stipulated. Now I am working on a substantial rewrite.
The direction I'm heading in now is making a case for the social activity of making a museum visit being particularly reshaped by the onset of consumerism and the rising primacy of the individual. It seems that museum visiting is increasingly becoming about you, the individual an what you want to use the museum for. You can use it as a social space, as a religious experience, as a research archive, as a meditative space. The visit is now uniquely personalized; it's where visitors exercise their intellectual and consumerist agency. Having the ability to direct yourself, to choose your own visit, to construct your own experience is, I believe, the most important part of the visit.
